You will depart Nairobi at 0800 hrs
with an Origins guide for the 6-hour
drive to Rockside Camp on the Kasigau
Trustlands. On arrival you will be
briefed on safety tips in the wild.

Day 2 Kasigau Villages
Today you will be introduced to the
team and encouraged to take part in
an informal discussion on theTaita/Rukinga
Conservancy and surround including
a demonstration of the 'Do's and Don'ts
of the Wilderness', 'Emergency Procedures'
and 'Social Etiquette'. In the afternoon
you will visit the rural villages
in the Kasigau Wildlife Trust lands
at the foot of Mount Kasigau. Here
you will be involved in a number of
community based development projects
under the guidance of the community
liaison officer.

3 Community Service
Community Service day in Kasigau Villages.
The success of any conservation programme
depends on the stewards of the wilderness:
the local people. We ensure that they
benefit from the conservancy via our
community service projects. This also
provides a genuine cross-cultural
interaction between participants and
Kenyans. Projects vary according to
the priorities of the local communities.

4 Wildlife & Waterhole Monitoring
Day
of Wildlife & Waterhole Monitoring
in Community Conservation Area. You
will visit some of the community initiatives
to fend off elephant damage to crops
and other wildlife threats to this
rural existence. Debate over the pros
and cons of wildlife tourism will
be led by your guide.

5 The Cloud Forests of Kasigau
Optional
hike to the cloud forests of Mount
Kasigau or day at leisure. You take
a half-day to visit and climb Kasigau
mountain. This fascinating outcrop
hosts endemic bird and insect species
and an enviable range of mature hard-wood
trees.

Day 6 Tsavo East National
Park
Full
day game drive with research insight
to Tsavo East Natonal Park. Tsavo
provides an interesting case study
on the management of elephants. In
the 50's debates ranged on whether
or not to cull the rapidly expanding
population. In the 80's it was also
the scene of mass poaching of elephants
and rhinos. You spend the day with
an experienced elephant researcher
learning research techniques and participating
in the Centre's ongoing research project
into elephant behaviour patterns.

7 Departure
You say farewell to the community
and drive back to Nairobi.
